Cyber Café at The Whitaker Center

The Tech Connect Industry Partnership is hosting 24 middle students from our community at a cyber security event called Cyber Café to promote technology careers with K-12 students.  On a month-to-month basis, the technology industry sector in the South-Central Region has about 1,500 job openings with high-paying, family-sustaining wages.   Cyber Cafe is part of our yearly outreach to over 1,500 K-12 students in our region to dispel common myths about technology and promote technology careers to students.

Cyber Café provides a fun experience with real-world examples through a cyber security game called the “World of Haiku.”  The students will learn real-world cybersecurity skills through the gaming experience and view live cyber wall threat maps with a facilitated discussion about real-time threat issues.  Other topics covered include an AI discussion with ChatGPT, social media, creating a positive digital footprint, data concerns, and keeping you and your family safe.  The day will end with a tour of the Whitaker Center and the Harrisburg University eSports facility.  This event is the first cyber security game at The Whitaker Center, and we hope this will enlighten students about cyber security careers and build a pipeline of future technology workers in the cyber security field.

This event was made possible thanks to a grant from the Commonwealth, South Central PA Techconnect Industry Partnership volunteers (an SCPa Works IT Industry Partnership), and the donation of the facility at The Whitaker Center PNC Innovation Center.
